Buying Art & Antiques? New York's The Place
Well our city is certainly gaining back its status as the center for art and culture. For many years people shied away from our town . Tourism was down, the economy failing and crime was rampant, but like our New York Yankees, New York is coming back with a vengeance.
The streets are once again filled with tourists, many of which are high end art and antique buyers. Numerous dealers have said to me that they are buying merchandise abroad only to sell it to a tourist from that same country. It seems our New York dealers are tops again as far as reliability and knowledge are concerned. One must remember that throughout the lean years here, only the fittest have had the ability to survive. That means that only the dealers that truly serve their customers and not their wallets were able to stay in business. That is not to say that all dealers are honest in New York. On the contrary, there are many newer dealers that are jumping on the coattails of this booming economy. When looking for a dealer it is strongly recommended that you find one that has a long history and is willing to educate and discuss pieces with you at length.
